House Power Issue

What do you do when you're playing at a rehearsal spot or gig where the power is screwing up your gear and tone?
At home my amp, effects unit and cables test fine and everything sounds great but at this new rehearsal hall everything is messed up....tone is degraded, high squealing when effects are engaged, noticible volume drops when effects are engaged. Would a UPS help?

Tell me about it !
My Cousin uses regulator/conditioner for constant steady feed. The unit is by Monster Cable I believe but, there are a few others to choose from. His voltage coming in was very high and was playing it safe. Unfortunately these type of units are pricey so your at the mercy of your jam spot. I rehearse at the old Zenith TV building...I do like when the lights dim when I hit power chords...

ok so I'm not crazy. It's so illusive and when these places add a lighting system that's even more load.
Does weather affect electical power? Winter always seems worse.
