Tape Echo Pedals who uses what?
Im looking into a good tape echo pedal I currently have a Lovepedal Gen5 echo and it sounds really good but still not quite what Im searching for. I see that Empress is comin out with a tape echo at the end of the month and I have one of there eqs which is a fantastic pedal. But theres still no reall soundclips or videos to hear what it sounds like yet. I keep hearing of the Strymon El Capistan that its one of the best. And I just descovered Wamplers Faux tape echo which from the soundclips and videos Ive heard of both Im starting to lean towards it because its touch sensitive just like my Gen5. And the warranty is transferable if you decide to sell it so they must be confident in there product enough to do that. Anyone use any of these pedals or Empresses multi delay that has the tape echo feature? I would love to hear feedback as to which ones you like and why.

Re: Pedal recommendation for Tape Echo
I have both Strymon El Capistan & Timeline w/ Favorite pedal & expression pedal.
Boss, Roland, Maxon, Ibanez, Roland 201 Space, DanElectro Reverse, etc. (I know... just like my insane wah collection.
)
As of currently and after hearing it, I find the new TC Electronic Flashback X4 is The Shit in a pedalform echo (not delay) and priced the biggest bang for the buck.

El Capistan kills. So does the Wampler analog delay.
Lots of great ones out there, I think you just have to research and try ones that appeal to you.

Re: Tape Echo Pedals who uses what?
Thanks guys I looked into the TC flashback awhile ago didnt care for it sounded good but to many things on it. Im not a fan of digital delay I like the analog sound of the old tape echos. So I bought a lovepedal gen 5 and like I said it sounds fantastic but still not what I was looking for. Im actually gonna list it on ebay as I just purchased a Wampler Faux tape echo pedal. I listened to several audio and videos of both that and the Strymon El Capistan. And although I liked the Strymon The wampler was several bucks less and seemed to offer more and sounded better to me. Plus they have one big selling point I like a transferable warranty. Theres not many companies that will stand behind there product enough to make there warranty transferable to the next person that buys it from you. That goes along way in my book should have my pedal in a couple days. I have one of my pedals on ebay may list it here to along with the Gen 5 echo from Lovepedal.

Fantastic pedal Jose I almost went with the Strymon it was definatly one of the top contenders. But in the end for me the Wampler Faux tape echo ended up winning out. Just liked the sound and features the best.

Re: Tape Echo Pedals who uses what?
After looking into lots of analog sounding delays, my buddy Lance Lopez really liked the Wampler so much he ended up getting an endorsement deal with them. That is saying something because Lance knows his shit and is a great player and I know he tried the El Capistan, but the Wampler won out. I haven't personally tried either one of them, but if you stick an EP-3 preamp like the Clinch F/X models, you will have a nice sounding and reliable approximation of an EP-3 Echoplex...Nothing is exactly like the real deal, but this compromise is probably about as good as can be had right now.

I'm using two Echoplex ep3. i've never tried the tape echo simulations.
It's definitely one of the few effects i'd keep if i had to.
Magic ...

Re: Tape Echo Pedals who uses what?
Just got my Wampler tape echo pedal yesterday. Im sold this pedal kicks some serious butt I would love to have got a real echoplex but due to cost and the fact they break down alot. I had to get something like this plus fulltone never returns any emails to even purchase one. and I doubt hes ever gonna finish his EP-3 model there has to be some reason he never finished it. I can live without one this pedal gives me exactly what I need.

Re: Tape Echo Pedals who uses what?
Would you place an EP-3 pre-amp pedal in conjunction with the Wampler like the Clinch F/X models or some others? As I said, that would be the way to go to get the closest approximation in reliable digital form, at least "on paper"...Capt Vemo wrote:Just got my Wampler tape echo pedal yesterday. You know I was conscidering it and may still look into one. But the custom built plexi I have has so much balls especially with my Empress eq that I think any other overdrive gain or preamp pedals would be way to much.

Re: Tape Echo Pedals who uses what?
The EP-3 pre-amp is very transparent and isn't really an overdrive...just a good clean boost. The boutique pedals that have tried to copy the pre-amp in the Echoplex-3 like Peter Clinch's units are built to get the very slight compressor sound in the original units. It will only give you more signal, in other words, rather than a "distortion" character. The majority of the reason that people like the EP-3 so much is the sound that the units got when they were in the chain, but without the echo actually engaged most of the time. I'm curious how much closer to an actual Echoplex-3 these digital models of analog tape echo units will sound with one of these circuits in line with them...Capt Vemo wrote:You know I was considering it and may still look into one. You know Im gonna get one just to try it out my amp gets a ton of distortion and sustain without any boost. But I put that paraeq from Empress in front of it and holy crap just boosting the highs and mids abit pushes that amp beyond any distortion I may need. Plus its got up to 30db of clean boost to that will push it into a territory thats almost to much. I guess in certian settings this pedal is actually analog but Im gonna get me one of those EP boost pedals and just see how this sounds. I can always back off some of the distortion and gain if needed on the other pedals.
