I have not demagnetized the heads in a while, would that cause the unit to tick like a clock. I will demagnetize and see what happens. The unit did this once before at a gig, but it quit the next time I used it and did not do it again, that was over over a year ago. Also, the longer the unit is engaged, the faster the clicking gets. I thought it might be a leaky capacitor, not sure why that would create a clicking effect but it was just a assumption. I'll report back after a good degaussing!

Degaussed and still having the same issue. Also, i removed the tape and ran the unit, and even without the tape cartridge loaded you can hear the faint ticking/thumping when the echo is turned on. Without tape it sounds more like footsteps and its not as audible but it can still be heard. Again this only happens while the echo is on, so its somewhere in the record side of the unit?

anyone have the pictures from this thread? Especially the first couple of pages with the pics of the boards and the ones with the PCB traces on the boards.

Im excited about getting going on this. This puppy is dirty but looks in great shape. It works Im ahead there. I figure rebuild the pinch roller, cleaning and degaussing. Replace the electrolytic's in the power supply, new belt and tension spring with felt. That should get me there.

Sounds like a good start. What's the serial number of the unit?
