Recently a friend made me aware of the Pink Floyd track "Sorrow" with it's re-recorded in a stadium lead sound.
I found a live version from the Pulse tour that is definitive of all the ones I have heard...

I began to delve into the world of the many effects Gilmour has used and in particular his EH Big Muffs.
Some would call it a Muff dive to quote a seventies phrase !
I discovered that the version from the Division Bell tour is the tone I like the best for fuzz and sustain.
The two tone painted pedal know as the Civil War due to it's blue and grey colors is my favorite.
I found a company from France that makes a version with the rare Russian diodes called the "Patriot".
Gilmour used a Colorsound tone booster and BK Butler and Chandler Tube Drivers as well.
The Rams Head is mentioned and Buffalo FX does a version of that as well.

Just love the creamy sustain of the EH style pedals. I mostly have DA Fuzz Face experience but they do not sustain like the Muff plus the Muff's are much more complex.
Hope to get the Patriot one day!

I love that track. I bought a couple different alder Classic 'Vibe Strats so I could swap necks and have one that looks similar to Gilmour's red Strat. Bought a set of DG-20 EMG's used on CL for $150, and added a Mexican RI-style tremolo w/ full-size sustain block, and bought a short arm for it on eBay. Lots of fun jammin' to that track!

Have slowly but steadily amassing the effects for my dream pedal board, which I really don't have a pedal board as I don't play out or gig...yet I am honing my chops and have many possible setups with the rigs I have to cover a huge guitar spectrum.
Hope to get to jamming with other old guys..lol I know I have something to say and feel that as of these days I have really dialed in my gear to cover all the sounds in my head.
Having my friend in Florida sending mega rare boots on CD and soon cassettes to redub I have been hearing Hendrix I haven't ever heard before which is giving me divine inspiration as it were.
I feel out of the last 20 or so years that I am in the best space mentally and playing wise to go for it..
Have the old 60th birthday coming up on August 11 so the rays of the sun in a new dawn are a distinct possibility for this olde soul.
The old psoriatic arthritis has been letting up on my hands and wrists which has been really exciting for me.
I had always dreamed of being in an old guy band doing our music without commercial interruption and this is a real distinct possibility for the elderly yngwie308.
Even back in my various UK setups and my MG supplied Pennsylvania era basketweave cabs and my 1992 '67 Black Flag Super Bass and my '73 metal panel and '66JTM-45 with EL-34's, I feel that my current rig, the 2005 Marshall 1959HW massaged by George and my killer 1982A Metro True Replica 4X12" cab with the world class G12H-75 Creambacks I am not wanting for anything on my setups as it were.
Now it's practice practice..I haven't felt so rejuvenated in years and now my bipolar disorder is being controlled I find that my creativity has reached a new all time high.
My enthusiasm outstrips all my previous frustrations and I really am enjoying all the gear I have carefully assembled.
God is good to me and I am a lucky, lucky fortunate son.
I feel that I am at the stage to be more creative and start working on my own things with my influences of Jimi, Beck, Bolin Malmsteen and recently I have rediscovered Gilmour and enjoy his blues based playing and phrasing.
I am starting to enjoy my musical endeavors again.
Being disabled as I am I have found ways to constructively manage my time and feel young again. IT's not over till the fat lady sings and I'm not letting her on stage yet.
I have considered playing guitar with my churches worship team, just have to brush up on my chordal sight reading.
The past few years the arthritis has been controlled by the wonder drug Enbrel and it has given me renewed hope.
Thanks to all my friends here at Metro Amp forum, my true home on the Internet and so much love the world George has tirelessly created for us here.
I am in love with the electric guitar again and what a blessing it has been. I am so grateful to still be able to play, maybe not as fast as before but I have learned new styles to accommodate and that has kept me going.
All praise to our Lord but I must give a shout out to my incredible wife of 14 years Helen whose love and support has enabled me to keep pressing on when it felt hopeless at times.
Thanks to all the support from my friends here and George. I can't thank George enough for creating the wonderful Metro world, a true home for discerning players everywhere!!

THat's right Haze13 98% of it is from the hands so the hands have to be performing up to par.

I have the old ProCo Rat, a Big Muff, and a Voodoo Labs Sparkle Drive (JRC4558 equipped OD), and using one of the distortions plus a bit of overdrive, I can get most of the Gilmour-era tones. Never have found a Fuzz-Face that does it for me yet, though I've only heard the first-era Dunlop FF's... The Rat gets decent Beck sounds as well...

fantastic tones from Gilmour. someone had to do it !! we want more stuffs like that in our world. Hendrix would have loved to hear this i'm sure.

i think i actualy never even tried a big muff ! but i'm often desiring such muff or cornish fuzz stuff. i wish i could settle on a model. i'd have to try many but i can't.
if i'd have to go for one muff version, please please, which one should it be ?

although with a Dunlop blue Hendrix fuzz, or my axis fuzz clone, or with the JB fuzz , i can get there, it dépends a lot of the acoustic / reverb , + other effects blend, echo, etc. with my gold lace sensors ( it's what gilmour has, right ? or EMG ? ) my strat is allways working great. it even features a combo single or humbucker in the bridge, thanks to a switch ( jeff beck strat pickguard )

I think I can help with your predicament, I did a lot of research as I always do and felt I got the replica version of the Sovtek Civil War Big Muff that I liked the sound of best.
I am of course referring to the Buffalo FX Patriot pedal. Plugged straight into my Marshall 1959HW upgraded by George it had that sound right away. No extra clean booster, no compressor/sustainor, or delay! Things are only getting better once I hook up a boost, I am going to use my Japanese Maxon ST-01 Suoer Tube Screamer set to clean and my Analogman modded Boss DD-6 with the high cut mod.

This lists David's gear for every album and tour and then in the Gear buyers section rates all the various components from amps to guitars pickups. Your Lace sensors you mentioned, so you have a red version? They are close to the EMG SA's that Dave used in the 1983 red '57 Strat, since the 2000's he reverted to the famous black Strat which has Seymour Duncan SSL-5 in the bridge.
Here is a guide to Big Muffs, I chose the era of PF's PULSE tour as my favorite Big Muff era and I will list some You Tube clips that will blow you away.

What I love the most about the Patriot pedal is that it will go into that harmonic feedback on low volume and the tone is to die for..seriously!

Mine has the original Russican diodes used in the original Sovtek and Steve Painter I believe is his name who builds these pedal all by himself is an Englishman living in France.
I prefer his pedals to Pete Cornish sacrilege of course lol

red lace sensors ? i didn't know it exist. mine are gold lace sensors. by the way, i'll have to look at how such pickups work, someday ! no poles ? ha ha

the first cover of sorrow sounds quite nice, but he uses a pete cornish pedal.

what did you mean by cornish sacrilege ? the very high prices he got ? lol

the axis fuzz , at least the one i made, is an amazing killer fuzz, unbelievable sustain, tone, harmonics, feedbacks, wildness ( more than the other fuzz ) , and great crunch , i'll try sorrow with it. i'd be interested to know how it may sound for you, compared to a patriot fx, if you have some axis arround.
it isn't the super bright unplayable fuzz peoples say it is. i realised that the roger mayer effects sound amazing .... only on my 45/100 ! just like how he did them for Jimi, and his 45/100 . once with a superlead, it's a different story. funny.
the Voodoo vibe also sounds perfect with the 45/100, and it's another story with the superlead ...

I mean that Cornish pedals are regarded as the holy grail and Gilmour uses them now as they are custom tailored to him and I'm sure they are not cheap. One could easily spend ten thousand dollars replicating Gilmours rack switching system!
