What song doesnt he use it on is the question. If youve ever had an AC30 stoo trust me youd know. The normal channel on an ac30 is more bassy and flabby even then the normal channel on any marshall. Once the rangemaster kicks in it can do Brighton Rock or any other queen song. If you have a rangemaster try plugging it into the normal channel on your marshall, turn the bass up, the treble down and the presence down and itll be something like an AC30 normal channel. You cant get the may sound out of an AC30 without a treble booster. The top boost channel is alright but not the same. The story is that may had his tech remove all the other circuitry in his road AC30s. All the top and trem channel circuitry which makes it a very simple circuit at that point. But you cant equate the Clapton boost sound. Its different. If you ever check out the Brian May star licks video he shows you how he sets the amps controls and how it sounds with and without the TB.

That's an excellent vid. I learned a lot from that. I met May a couple times, too. Super nice guy. Wanted to know more about what gear I had and was using then what he was doing.

Chief I was so close to convincing a friend to lemme do a 'May' amp for him. I called it the Brighton. It was the simplest amp. Just the AC30 normal channel but I included the wierd input to the PI from the vib channel which only served as a kind of mid filter for the other channels depending on how the vib volume was set. I wouldve built a TB into that too.

hmmm
I have that Vid too. I love it! He seems so down to earth and honest. I don't get the impression he is screwing with us like Eddie or Page.If you ever check out the Brian May star licks video he shows you how he sets the amps controls and how it sounds with and without the TB.
FYI- That Vid has been discontinued or something. I had to hunt hard for it to get it! Finally found it online at some podunk tiny music shop in Montana.
I think you can also find it on emule. And the little book on there too in PDF

I think pretty much the entire Star Licks vid is up on youtube. It's well worth picking up, though, if you can find it.
