Snake Oil Brand strings reviewed in Guitar Player!

Post by Star*Guitar » Fri Oct 27, 2006 8:35 am

Dean Farleys Snake Oil Brand of strings get The Guitar Player Pick award/ Tested were the Original Nickel and Rock formula (Brighter hex core)). They last much longer than anything I have ever used. The Original formula are not as bright, but they maintain the same tone for weeks and weeks. Work better on single coil pups. And yes you need to wipe them as you always should after you play. You owe it to your tone to try a few sets.

I've said it before. It makes a huge difference. Like popping a set of Mullards in a Marshall!.

Yeah, those are great strings. As soon as I get done swapping pickups like a madman, I'm going to restock the SOB Vintage sets and use them on all my guitars. They feel and sound "right" to me. Until then, I'm using cheaper strings so that I don't waste the good stuff. :D

I'm glad Dean is getting some well-deserved acclaim for his products.

I tried them and really liked them. I just didn't like them enough to pay that much and wait that long for them.
I might give them another try after I go through all the D' Addarios I have left.

Mike
Never settle for an amp thats smaller then you are.

they are really not that much more...I usually get mine in about 4-5 days...I usually order before I use my last set. So it is all good. These strings are custom made...to me that is like getting a hand crafted guitar....so much the better...Of course I understand you point. When you are use to going to a Music store and getting a set for 5 bucks....you think your paying too much...But the quality of these strings in terms of tone and how long they last makes them well worth it...I bet the cost balances out.
