I've stop buying them myself. And I have to 100% sort all of the ones on the shelf.
Recently I have tried and like the New Sensor Tung Sol RI. Still expensive though. You're just as well to find some RCA's for about the same price. The Tung Sols sound alot like them to me. So at least there's some hope for new tubes.

I bought 7 of these from them. 5 had to be replaced and one blew up. I'm not impressed and I don't buy their story about them. In my opinion, they were not ready to be marketed. They are imported and relabled. Not a true tube built by them. Tests numbers were terrible. My used original Marshall branded tubes were more consistant and had higher numbers. I won't buy them again. I'm looking for suggestions on ones myself because I can't afford that many Mullards.

I agree with George here, those Tung Sol are most likely the best "modern made" tubes out there, for there sound quality, don't know for their reliability yet!!!!!?VelvetGeorge wrote:I've stop buying them myself. And I have to 100% sort all of the ones on the shelf.

One of the more "Mullard" sounding new production tubes out there are the Ei. The original GT-M really do get close to a NOS Mullard tone, but you really have to buy them from KCA or someone who screens them. It really is a shame that they've let the QC go, because otherwise they sound good.
And as for Mullards, it really depends on which ECC83s you're talking about. I've got a few different varieties - long plates, box plate CV4004s and they sound different from each other. The CV4004s seems to work well in vintage circuits, but don't like high gain circuits as much as the long plates.
I may have to break down and check out the Tunsols - it just grates me that New Sensor is using the old names for tubes that aren't repros.

I know, I had a hard time letting go of my disdain for their marketing ethics. Once I starting to gear up to build more amps, I knew I would need modern tubes I could stand. So I tried a bunch and the "Tung Sol" faired best. I have used plenty of the GT-M's but the QC is terrible. Lots of them motorboat in any position right out of the box.
I have liked the EI's too. But there are plenty of noisy ones. Ultimately, I'll have to screen all of them, whichever brand I choose.
