What if??

Post by dcaster » Mon Jan 09, 2006 12:30 pm

What if my amp is supposed to have 6L6 tubes and it actually has EL34's? The amp is a Carvin x-100B. I like the sound and have had the tubes in it for a couple of years and it sounds GREAT! I am the one that put the current tubes in it and I didn't know anything about "so stinkin' tubes" when I put them in it but I have been reading the posts in this furum and it got me wondering. And the people I bought them from probably didn't have the knowledge they should have and probably just didn't care as long as they sold the tubes.

If it sounds - ok - why not !?

Harry Kolbe did it! Other wellknown guys did it with their Fenders...

The fault almost always is sitting in front of the amp

Biasing?

Other than the normal biasing issues, do different tubes require a different biasing?
