Pre amp valves for JTM 45/100

Post by StuartC » Wed Jun 20, 2012 3:43 am

Just got myself a JTM 45/100 (Ceriatone, sorry!) and wanted some advice on the best sounding pre amp tubes. I've read a log of good reports on here about the Mullard re-issues, but then read the following:"The good news is there are at least several current production preamp tubes that are pleasing to the ear. I should note that certain positions in some amps create a large voltage potential between cathode and heater (e.g. V2 in a Marshall 45-50-100w plexi), and only old production or newer short plate versions (e.g. Shuguang, JJ ECC83) should be used there."
Has anyone had problems running all three Mullards? Should I definately avoid using one in the V2?
