Dear Dan,

might stay away from the 5881's my friend. You may expirience a VOLUME/PERFORMANCE drop when using these. Read alot about them before pursuing them. They are a different animal.
I have used both: the 5881's and the SED productions.
IMHO the SED's are in a whole other dynamic level. Even Doug, the owner of dougs tubes claims that the SED winged C's have more charactor, in his expirience with his clientle.
My expirience with using the 5881's are as follows:
Extreme dark sounding and depreciated dynamics.
Hope that helps out some.
Take care, Mass / Dave

Thanks for the info. I was never really taht interested in the 5881's actually. I think I wanted something more along the lines of 6550's or KT66's. Im about ready to sell the Soldano anyway :) It was a good workhorse for the cover and fillin gigs but Im about done with that stuff.

KT66s

Try Kt66s; they are warm AND fat sounding. Also very well rounded as per their tonality (hence the term kinkless tetrode, there is no "kink" in its freq. response.)!

Dan, have you found a source for KT77's? I don't believe any mfr. offers these in current production. From what I've read, these tubes are supposedly THE ultimate EL34 variation. The few I've seen on Ebay go for ridiculous amounts. I believe I read somewhere that Marshall even used them for a split second. Anyone know?
