Original NOS Mullard ECC83/12AX7s

Post by Shredder » Wed Jul 20, 2005 11:00 pm

Hello all; got my vay-kay-pay and just placed an order for three NOS Mullard pre-amp tubes from TubeDepot.com. Ain't gonna say how much either-but I WILL let y'all know if they was woith it!!! I think it'll be the last piece to "MY" sound (think fat-sound, warm like Kossoff, Y&T, Fillmore Allmans, Thin Lizzy, Gary Moore, Schenker etc...all humbucker players for the most part)

I finally took the plung and got 4 mullards that I have in the V1 slots of several amps. All I can say is THERE IS NO SUBSTITUTE! THE TONE right away. I also got some Brimars, which are nice and RFTs which are just as nice as the Brimars in their own way, for a lot less.

I got mine from KCA NOS. Great people.

MULLARD ECC83s are IT!

This is the most sought after 12AX7 variant in the world. The Telefunken ECC803s is a special quality – long life 12AX7 that is considered by many audiophiles the BEST 12AX7 ever made.

These ECC803s have the diamond bottom and come in a bulk container. Bulk containers were used for OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturer). The reason they are not in individual Telefunken boxes is because tubes sold to OEMs were rarely sold that way. It was a waste of time and money for an OEM to have to open and discard hundreds of boxes when they can just pull out of a bulk container.

Every one of the ECC803s we have is from the same batch code of U9003701r

Matched pairs are available.

Price is for a Single Tube

What do you guys think of the Telefunken? They have some that are around $40.

How would you guys compare a NOS Mullard 12AX7 to a Telefunken 12AX7?

thanks

Would you notice a difference if you had 3 NOS Mullards in V1, V2, and V3 vs. having a NOS Mullard in V1 and something else like a Telefunken in V2 and V3?

there are differences in what lineup you use, but its very subtle. it seems v1 has most effect on your tone, then v3, then v2. i have mullards, military mullards, amperex bugle boys, brimar. it is nitpicking if your talking vintage tubes, but i always end up with a row of mullards in marshalls.

They are very refined, beatifull for Fenders, Marshall, a little soft sounding unless you want to go rock bleusy style than it will be the best, for harder heavier sound go with Amperex(bugle boy), mullard, GE, Brimar...type..
