I prefer the winged-C's over the JJ E34Ls but this is highly subjective...about the bright cap, instead of taking out the bright cap you could install a push-pull vol pot with any cap value and diferent combinations if you like, at least that's what i've done (used to have a 5000pf and a 250pf installed so i could choose on the fly whichever i wanted...now i have installed only a 500pf so i can choose on the fly either the 500pf or no cap at all)...

I guess it depends on the what you are wanting in your amp. the JJ E34l to me offers a tighter bass and more of it. If you are gonna run your amp wide open then you will like the JJ's. They work well with MV as well. But the biggest difference I hear with the JJ's and others is the bass response and the highs. The Winged C have a more balanced tone but don't have as much low end thump.

The E34Ls have a nice and tight lowend response, which is great with humbuckers, and they stay that way when cranked like Freedom said. Of course, it depends on the speakers, guitar, room, exact circuit, etc. But in general they are tighter than EL34s, KT77s, or 6L6GCs.
