Can someone explain to me why most of the input grid resistors for 6CA7 tubes that I have seen in schematics use such high values such a 5M. Unless I am mistaken most schematics I have seen specify this value or higher. Just wondering about that.

I think you may be confusing 5 megaohm with 5 thousand ohm.
