Need EL34 recommendation

Got a Ceriatone kit amp, I've boosted the mids in a few spots so it's got real good sustain, but I've been running the ubiquitous JJ E34L.
My main complaint with my amp is that the amp sounds kind of "dry" in the high end. It's not dark sounding, it just doesn't have a very sweet high end.
Someone recommended for me the Electro Harmonix EL34. Any opinions on it? He said it had "better" highs and mids. For me, "better" would be clear, but NOT HARSH.
I've also tried Penta Labs KT66 in the amp. It biased up without a problem (though it was towards the end of the pot travel) and it had a nice bottom end, but I thought it was a bit too zingy on the high end.
I'm looking for something to give me a nice blues-rock and heavy rock sound. I love VH and I like to play it, but I'm not particularly chasing that exact tone.
One sound I've been chasing is Audley Freed's sound on Cry Of Love's "Brother" album. Not to grindy or fuzzy or buzzy, just sweet strat-into-Marshall tone. Of course, if I had his chops ....
