source for tested genelex kt66s?

Post by Roe » Sat Jul 30, 2011 9:51 am

I need two quads that can handle high voltages in super 100 amplifers. the 100JH has 550v on the plates and virtually the same on the screens

I have had little luck sourcing truly NOS matched quads of GEC lately. You can find almost NOS quads, but at inflated prices. At $800-900 USD it's what I would expect to pay for true new-old-stock.

You can order matched quads, pairs etc from New Sensor but I don't know what sort of testing is done. I do think they do some sort of burn in before matching. Right now I have a quad of the Genelex KT66's from them that I have not installed yet. I'll do that this evening and see how they seem to match up bias wise.

I put the matched quad of KT66's that I just got from New Sensor into my Marshall this evening and the bias match was ok. My amp has 475 volts on the plate and I put the tubes at about 30ma cathode current. I thought all was well but I noticed after about an hour of some playing and some time of just idling that one of the tubes has dropped off about 50% on the cathode current.

Hopefully I can get a replacement on the way. What's aggravating is that while I have four other new New Sensor Genelex KT66's here none of them is very close to the others static match.
