Differance between MULLARD Shield Logo, Phillips Label, orig.

Post by daneswede » Sat Dec 03, 2005 11:37 pm

I have bought a couple of Mullard "Phillips" label NOS Tubes .
What I would like to know is there any tonal differance between the Phillips Label, The Shield Lgo type and the Original Commercial ctock versions of these tubes? The Philips Label and the Shield Logo ran $90 a piece, the commercial stock ran $75.00 Another site I deal with also offers a 90 day warranty / has the Mullards as well but I havent inquired yet as to which type they are? DOes it matter? By the way, the other guy is asking $50 a piece! He warranties that they are 100% true NOS ! Tx!

The label won't be as reliable an indicator of tone as the plate structure. There are long plates, short plates, box plates. Each sounds a little different.

Let's see about getting a comparison going on these. It seems like enough forum members have them now to warrant a closer look.

What about double halo single halo etc etc and other physical tube characteristics and how they can translate different tones. I don't really know enough about that stuff and I'm probably not alone in really wanting to.
