Use the Gold Lion reissue KT66, they are very nice sounding. The GT KT66-C are China tubes very stiff sounding.

I've never tried the Gold lions specifically because they claim to be a recreation of the Genelex, yet the flashing and getters are in no way like the originals. They look *nothing* like the originals. They may sound good, but the promotion is BS.Fever Dog wrote:I'll probablly get a set of gold lions. Thanks man.

Yea totally agree. They look nothing like the originals. I don't really mind that if they sound good though. What tubes work for you?

The flashing of the getters makes a difference in the sound? Nonsense.

Amen to that Axeman...I am into my 3rd quad of Gold Lions, all have worked well, even up to 525V.axeman wrote:Use the Gold Lion reissue KT66, they are very nice sounding. The GT KT66-C are China tubes very stiff sounding.
JJ crashed and burned 2 quads in a month, C's didn't even survive a day, leaked and burned a hole clean thru the glass, switched to Gold Lion and haven't looked back. Nothing sounds like real GEC, but the tone of the Gold Lion is quite good for a new output tube.

Isn't that in the last stage of manufacturing where it is used to remove impurities ?DaveMcLain wrote:The flashing of the getters makes a difference in the sound? Nonsense.

I have had good results 65% to 70%, if you are above 480v or hitting hard with
pedals, lean towards the 65%, even at 60%ish they don't seem to be icepicky.
Nothing beats a GEC...but the RI GL is a very good new production output tube.

Re: Groove tubes kt66-c ??????
Just to chime in here..
Was using the Gold Lion KT66 reissues in the JTM 45.. Recently came into a brand new matched pair of GEC's KT66's and the difference is really something.. The GEC's have more lows and a softer high with the mids leaning more towards the low side.. The GL's are much cleaner/brittle sounding and dont sing like the GEC's do.. Also, the GEC's feel different under the fingers.. more responsive somehow..
They are not similar at all ..
