Groove Tubes

Post by Classic 59 » Thu Jun 28, 2012 10:52 pm

I have been thinking about trying the SAG-MHG Marshall High Gain Kit. Has anyone used these tubes or have recommendations on other Groove Tubes? This is for a Metro 12,000 amp.

I tried them in 2003 all they are, are JJ with GT on them and you only get 3 for an expensive price I can do the same for les. I have a maxi pre preamp tester which will indicate the gain and conductance so I can find the PI tube and v1 and 2 for you. For V1 an EH 12ax7 would give you more mid range options not as bright like the JJ in V1. You'll save 20.00 bucks

Hi everyone, I recently asked a tube & amp component supplier here in Oz about Groove Tubes & was told he wont use them any more as Aspen Pittman had sold the company to Fender & was no longer affiliated with, & that quality had fallen off. Does anuone know if this is correct. Cheers

GT is just a rebrander. They take other manufacturers(china,JJ,Russia/Reflektor) tubes screen them for defects and slap a silk screen orange GT on um.
And yes Aspen sold to Fender like 5yrs ago.
If you want new production IMO youd be better off approaching a reputable tube dealer about there screened tubes.Same thing less $,no orange GT logo.

Thanks for the reply Guitar Sam. I was aware GT simply tested & rebranded current productiom tubes. I did try some a fair while back, when Groove Tubes was the current buz word (I think the 2nd edition of Aspen Pittman's book had just been published), but prefered NOS. With those becoming progressively more expensive, I enquired about the GT's. Cheers
