Pre tubes for 74 Super Bass

Post by ghettoshelf » Fri Aug 10, 2012 8:10 pm

I recently bought a 74 Super Bass.I would like suggestions on pre amp tubes.Don't really want reissues.I can spend a little money but I am not rich by any means.I am primarily a bass player but it will be used for bass and guitar. My bass sound is dirty.I usually use a 70 SVT with a 63 P bass.Thanks.

Get a Mullard, Brimar or RCA ECC83/12AX7 for V1 and the rest can be whatever takes your fancy - I don't think there is anywhere near as much difference in the V2 and V3 positions with different valves. I normally just use EH ECC83s or reissue Tung Sols in V2 and V3.

I'd go with some Svetlana 6550s in the output stage too.
