Jet City Amplification (Retrovalves)

It took me about a minute to figure what is truly inside the "Retrovalve". When I saw the bottom of the "Retrovalve" 100% analog preamp tube replacement noval pins, I noticed a cutout where the bottom of the vacuum tube or "Retrovalve" is crimped when the vacuum tube glass was blown (and sealed) with all the elements inside. Jet City is simply using subminiature dual triode types (like the 6111 or 6112) as used by some pedal manufacturers such as Seymour Duncan, Effectrode and a few others.

The good thing about subminiature dual triodes are their notably longer lifespan than your typical modern dual triode types from Russia, China, or Checklosovakia.

They say that inside is a transformer and FET circuit. :hide:
Look at 0:25 here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3YdrNjipRgo (Jet City's Joe Stopka)
JC's Doug White says the same thing here (starts around 3:30) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7XRC279jhOs
Apparently they run cold and the envelope is plastic, not glass. An LED provides the coloured light.
Just saying. :peace:
It would be interesting to see the insides.

Maybe so, but I believe it's called misdirection. I still believe they are using subminiature dual triodes. Mini transformers and FETs phssst. There are enough technically savvy guys (with ears) here on this forum to know that's utter BS.

There are enough musical equipment manufacturers that are now using subminiature dual triode tubes that it would be stupid for Jet City not to use that technology especially when you can offer longer hours of usage before failure with subminiature tubes comparative to that of modern dual triode tubes made in Europe and China.

Well, I'm the idjit here!!! However, would any respectable tube fanatic like many of us here, choose SS over vacuum tubes when it comes to guitar amps? TSMA, I'm glad you've proved your point here because now (I KNOW) w/o reservation that I will never try or buy Retrovalves. Jet City's marketing for Retrovalves must be directed at the younger "less in the know" crowd who could probably care less about the (audible/tonal difference) in sound between SS versus vacuum tubes.

At $35 a pop they seem silly, don't they?

That's enough to be on your way to something NOS that'd last as long as you live/play anyway and sound soooo much better!
