Mullard Madness

Post by killertone » Mon Mar 06, 2006 10:09 pm

I got my first Mullards today. What can I say...unbelievable. I know a lot of you already know this but for those who haven't done it yet...BUY SOME!! I paid about $20 per tube by watching the auctions closely on ebay and ended up getting 11 total. I have only received 3 so far but they are amazing in my '77 JMP MV.

They are are all I63s. They have plenty of gain and the tightest bottom end I have ever heard. The highs are really smooth. I know I am repeating what all you guys have already said but since I finally heard it I have to tell people! I have an IEC 7025/12AX7 (copper supports) in V1 and V2 and a Pinnacle Mullard in the PI. I tested them on my B&K 606 and they all came out over 100. The tone is awesome. Pitted against some RFT/Amperex ECC83's and some JAN Philips 12AX7WA's there was no comparison although the Philips were still very good, just not as detailed. I await the Amperex BB, Tung-Sol, Sylvania, GE, and RCA tubes that I have coming to go head to head with the Mullards. Actually, I am pretty sure that the GE and RCA tubes I have coming are rebranded Mullards...I'll have to wait and see until they get here.

I am in tone heaven. :D
