Hey-O...Back when I was 14 in 1984, my first pair of speakers were these Celestions that had the back center hole ported with this meshy thing...these were the best sounding speakers I've ever owned, but then I bought newer ones that didn't have this, just steel'ed over...I can't for the life of me remember why I changed them out, but I remember thinking the new ones sucked...of course, those speakers are long gone...
I believe they were high-powered suckers...anybody remember these and which model they were??

Were those the "vented" G12T-75s? I think I saw somebody on Rig-Talk looking for some of those.

While we're on the topic of holy speakers, does anyone know if this speaker is missing something?
The black mesh you can see through the middle of the magnet is actually the back side of the dust cap on the cone.
It'd be great for fixing bashed in dust caps, but I would think it would suck in a LOT of dust and other crud into the voice coil gap.

Were Celestions branded as Rola in '84??...If the G12T-75's were vented then that it very well could have been those...either way, these things sound wicked...

I believe that's about right for the vented 75s. I remember reading somewhere that they became non-vented in 86. Not entirely sure about that though.

Upon thinking about it more, I believe they were 65's...my guess is the 75T's didn't have the vent mesh in '84 or else they probably would have been more commonly identified...who knows...
..I wonder how close the reissue's sound...looks like I might be adding to my already vast wall-of-speakers == gawd this is getting crazy

That would fit my timeline almost perfectly...interesting...if they were 75T's, then the non-vented ones sounded worse for sure and it leads me to believe there were more changes to the speaker along with the vented mesh being plugged..

They were vented in '84. Sounds like you remember "M" magnets, but if not some of the H magnet models were "screened" too.
My understanding is that the screened vent was kind of an artifact on these models (that had solid dustcaps), resulting from having parts in common with other models that were vented in the front. G12T-75s, G12-65s, G12H-100s didn't really need the vent in the back and in fact it was a potential liability in sealed cabs. When they eliminated the back vent, they went to a different polepiece assembly that could potentially alter the response a little.
