Any one try this?
Im thinking about blocking the 2 bottom speakers on a 4x12
with blankets or foam to reduce overall volume.
Has anyone tried this and what were your results??
Thanks Jimmy

I've wanted to try a perspex screen for some time but I can never find the sheets in a big enough size for a reasonable cost.neikeel wrote:Better using beam blockers or a perspex screen IMO.
Once I've got the sheets, it shouldn't be too difficult to bend the perspex sheets, have done it before back in secondary school.

Re: Any one try this?
I have beam blockers (Weber IIRC) in one of my H equipped 4x12s. They do work well to disperse the sound in smaller rooms. Mic ing up is a bit strange tho', but I usually DI the bigger heads through my Motherload Elemental saving the mic for my 18watter.
I have used a perpex sheet and it does work but I think a folding version is best (I think Master Keeper has a very attractive version painted by his wife?).

I rivet surplus wool army blankets in pairs, and cover those with saddle blankets. A safety pin holds up as much corner as I need to hear highs. The army blankets have a hole cut about as big as a small coffee can for a mic window.

Re: Any one try this?
I had friend who years ago, played a 72 Marshall, 4 holer, no mods, dimed with a strat loaded with a DiMarzio PAF. He took out the celestions and loaded the cab with EV SRO's with big ass, heavy AlNiCo magnets. Talk about loud. But, he cut out a piece of carpet to cover 3 speakers leaving only a bottom one to mic for his gigs. His tone would make you shit your pants but that's how he controlled the volume, and it was heavenly.
Cheers to the ears.

Sometimes I put a guitar in front of the cab and it works, but usually just click the attenuator down
