Current 2x12 Options

Post by Logan5000 » Fri Aug 03, 2012 8:59 pm

I live in the SF bay area, and was wondering what my options are for a solid 2x12 manufacturer. I like the more contemporary, thick outer edge . ie . . . newer designs.

Any recommendations ?

Thanks

PS - I love the tone of this amp . . _ucking killer !

Yes Avatar finally have a cool contemporary design. I am leaning towards two single 12"s or possibly 8"s
I am not sure if they make single cabs with 12 / 10 and /8''s . .

Planing to use a single 12 for the main amp. The second cab I would like to have an 8" Speacker . . 10" largest if posdible.. And will handle a completely 100% effects signal amp

Thank you

Hey, Logan.
Im just curious as to why you'd use an 8" speaker on your FX amp? It seems that you'd be limiting the frequency response of the FX to the upper registers with that configuration, and Im wondering if there's a reason for that?
The tone in that vid IS huge.

I run wet dry systems all the time. I would suggest staying with 12" speakers for both wet and dry. The reason is a smaller speaker will through off the frequency response and you'll have to adjust that which just needlessly complicates an already complicated setup. Like the video I typically use a 4x12 but a 2x12 for the dry is fine and a 1x12 for the wet. In my case I use a solid state amp for the wet re-amping my wet signal that starts at my attenuator. By starting the wet signal after the full power stage of the dry amp the timbre, distortion and crunch all stay the same. It then goes to a digital effects unit for ambiance and the SS amp and then to the guitar speaker to maintain frequency window of guitar. If you would rather adjust the frequencies yourself you can use a powered PA type speaker. I have seen this done but also know that it is harder to get a natural sound that way.
