Ok, so I got it wrong !!! I prefer the new cab then !
Have to say I didn't expect those ASW to sound that good, they seem to be well worth the price !
I'd even more love to hear them in the same cab !

The next step should be to swap speakers and compare again. I need to know how much the cabs are influencing the tone.

Schwing!!! I can still trust my ears then! I love that era speakers, but I don't particularly like them with split cathode amps. I take it that was your 12 series? How about a comparison with the JTM45/100?
JTM45 RS OT, 1973 18W, JTM45/100, JTM50, JMP50 1986, JMP100 "West Coast", AC15, AC30, BF Super Reverb, Boogie Mk 1, Hiwatt CP103, DR103

Same here mate. I also prefer the newer ones and I also thought I was hearing the 68 cab.

Exactly my take too. You really ought to try some G12H25s, with a upper mid cranked shared cathode amp (ie my BF 67 plexi) the tone and gain is fantastic with great sustain and articulation, as much gain as you hear here, dare I say better than with my 20w pinstripe cab. The 68 SL sounds best with two basket weaves together - but that is an unfair comparison.shakti wrote:Schwing!!! I can still trust my ears then! I listened to the clips George made on two different PCs on the first I preferred the ASWs but on the second listen the mid prominence which had sounded woody with extended bottom end sounded a bit boxy. Both features that could be ameliorated with a bit of EQ tweaking but of course this is a straight ahead ABY.

I thought the position of the lights indicated the cab, but it was the opposite! what i initially thought was the '68 (actually the ASW) sounded far better, to me anyway. Nice to know my ears still work. In a way, hearing these two back to back almost feels like listening to a M type speaker at different points of its life. Brand new and well worn voices of the same speaker

I dont post often butshakti wrote:Interesting! I actually preferred the new cab here! That scooped thing with the old one was what I didn't particularly like. I also think it sounds thinner on top, less bloom and sustain.
I absolutly agree with Shakti and also very impressed !!!
Sounds very good !!
