And long before the internet people were blowing them by running them that way, and they still do. The only difference is it's more well known because of the internet.

Wow, until Motorhead commented, I was under the impression that 100 watt amps like Marshalls, actually cranked out nearly twice that. Glad to be corrected!

And in all that time people have often been blowing those 100watt cabs to smithereens. Hence why even Marshall themselves recommended full stacks from day 1 of the 100watt amps.

I've said "No you shouldn't do it!" for years. I've posted those JCM800 specs for years as well.

And frankly, no one follows up with those guys who dime a Super Lead into a 100w cab to see how long it lasted. But I have with some, they're the ones ordering 65w M75's to replace the blown ones.

I am relating to the Metro forum what I've been told by my clients and how they blew up their speakers. I've never fried a 4x12 intentionally, but then I've always used higher powered speakers.

I have taken a Rebel 20 amp, set the amp to 4 on the volume knob and played it through a 25w BlackBack for all of 8 seconds before it blew, though. Does that count?

I've also seen one of my clients use a G12-65 for 14 months with one of my 10w amps, then it blew. Go figure. That should have lasted forever.

There's a lot of misinformation and plain bad information on the internet from sources that really aren't qualified to post it. That's why you won't see me post about childbirth, brain surgery or menstrual cycle cramps, cuz I just don't have any experience with those subjects.

Need a little help here. I'm getting ready to buy some G12m 08BMT 1221/22 2008 Heritage speakers.

Question: did the speakers come in 25 watts or 20 watts that year, and 15 ohms or 16 ohms?

Hey Art,

Having bought my set of G12H-30 55Hz in 2008, I'm pretty certain that the only models in the Heritage range at that time were 65W clones, the G12H-30 55Hz, and the 20W G12M clones and maybe an EVH speaker of some description.

15Ω, 16Ω doesn't matter, it's just a label for posterity. The voice coils are exactly the same, and 16Ω is only an approximation anyway.

For me, the 30watters are a little peaky, even after all this time of breaking in, and the 20watters seem to lack a little "something". They're also a lot quieter, and don't match to many other speakers well because of the difference.
Hopefully somebody else will have some varying opinions...

I would take celestion power ratings with a pinch of salt anyway. If the heritage G12H uses exactly the same cone assembly as the heritage G12M, then that either makes the heritage G12H a 25 watt speaker, or the heritage G12M a 25 watt speaker. There shouldnt be 10 watts power handling difference between the two.

The larger magnet size on the G12H usually accounts for 5 watts extra power handling simply because it absorbs more heat than the smaller G12M magnet. This is normally the only difference between the two speakers.

Good info. I still haven't found out if Celestion in 2008 was making 25 watt made in ingland G12m?

Art, Celestion stopped making the G12M 25w in England in mid to late 2003, and moved production to China.

Your date codes are 08BM, which is February 8th, 2003. You also have "Made In England" stamped on your magnet covers. So the ones in your pic you posted are MIE.

As for the voice coil discrepancy...the Heritage, EVH and Reissue all use the same voice coil. They rate it differently on the Heritage to attract the vintage speaker buying crowd, but it's the same coil as the others. It's just a different label, not a different voice coil.
