Scumbacks finished and getting ready to ship! The California production crew has been working through the weekend. I expect all of my back orders to ship out within 8-10 days.

Your new speakers look great! Hey...please let us know when you get your BB 75 clips together. I'm really looking forward to comparing them to your M75s.

The BlackBack M75's (BM75 series) got rave reviews at the LA AMP Show. Pete Thorn already tried them, digged them and I'm going to hire him to do all new Scumback clips from the California production crew. He's on tour with Don Henley right now, so that will be happening in November.

And thanks for the kind words on the speaker's looks. They have the tone to match, too.

I can build them in 25, 30, 65 and 100w, actually.

Cheers to the ears.

Had 4 prototype M75-16 20w PVC's here yesterday. Had a client picking up his stack and let him try those against the M75 65w he had ordered to go with his H55's.

The 65w M75's are still here, the PVC's are gone.

But here's the catch...these are the old paper voice coil formers made of kraft paper. They have a much lower resistance to heat (power sent to them) than the regular M75's do. It is possible that they can fry or catch fire if sent too much power. The client that took these has two 4x12's with his 100w head, so he uses both cabs at once.

There's no way you could run a single 4x12 of the PVC speakers with anything more than a 50w head. If you run a 100w head, two 4x12's are mandatory.

So that's a big consideration that must be taken seriously. The PVC speakers are going to be sold without warranty, too, so that's going to force buyers to make the right decision about how many they get/use and which amp they'll use them with.

in case this helps: the loudest 45/100s (600v) put out ca 90w clean and 140w at 10.
most originals, however, should put out around 80w clean and 130w at 10 (with 560v on the plates).
most clones have 500v on the plates and put out around 70w clean and about 120w at 10

Based on the voice coil manufacturers heat tests and my discussions with them, these will handle a maximum of 30-35w each before flame out/smoke/sparks occur. That's why I'm rating them lower to give you guys a margin of safety.

The voice coils will be the same for both the M75 PVC 20w and H75 PVC 25w. In keeping with how speaker manufacturers like to use the old wattage ratings for reference, I'm going to follow suit. The next four that are made will be mounted in a 4x12, and I'm going to pull out my 50w Metro I built and my Marshall 71 JMP 50w, plus my Komet Concorde clone. I will start the tests around noon on the volume knobs and go up from there....and I'll keep a fire extinguisher handy.

I only plan to offer these paper voice coil versions in M75 8 &16 ohm for 20w and H75 8 & 16 ohm for 25w.

With the JTM 45/100 and it's lower output (70w clean, 110w cranked / dimed) I'd imagine you'll let me know if four of them held up, right?

Seriously, though, it would be on the ragged edge of power handling, and with OD pedals/wah/boosts/flange and all other things Hendrix, they might not last very long.

I checked with Greg Germino, he says four of these speakers will handle a JTM 45/100 no problem. So there you go.
