Celestion G12C Greenback and G12M Greenback

Post by Mats A » Tue May 04, 2010 5:11 pm

What is the difference in tone like more or less bass, mids and treble between the Celestoin G12M Greenback and the G12C Greenback wich is also a M magnet speaker and is used in Marshalls 425 cabs? Wich has the most mid 70´s type tone? Celestion and Marshall wont comment on this due to some customer confidentiality.

The 73+ had 1777 cone or on occasion the 6402 cone the reissue greenback also has a 1777 cone. The heritage G12C is closer to the pre-rola cone but unique see thread about the heritage and EVH speaker for more info some from the Celestion rep himself.

Can you please give me links to these threads? I meant the G12C Greenback that is in the Marshall 425 cabs that are part of the vintage Modern series. Isn´t the Heritage G12C another speaker?

"The G12C speakers are exclusive to Marshall and can only be purchased from Marshall.
The G12C is a G12M but voiced after a particularly nice vintage reference we (Marshall) had access to. We couldn't call it a G12M because that was already taken obviously, so we called it G12C, which simply stands for G12 Ceramic. It is exclusive to the SUPER100JH Limited Edition Hendrix 1982A and B cabs and the Vintage Modern Series."

Good question. If you were looking for a Greenback that sounded like the legendary G12M from the late 60's, would you go for the G12C (from the Vintage Modern cabs) or find some 6402 Cones from the 90's? Or maybe the G12M's from the late 70's JMP cabs /combos?? How do they all compare?
