Do the handles have to come off to replace grill cloth?

I am trying to put cloth back on a '70's slant cab. Do the handles have to come off the get the board out that the cloth attaches to? I hate to have to drill the rivets out to get a handle off.
Thanks

Unfortunately yes.

Is it best to re-rivet them or convert to screws?
Thanks

Spend a little more cash and get some good vintage metal handel reproductions with the proper bolts from Scumback.

Mine has the plastic handles, and they are in good shape. I really don't want to replace them.
Looks like I would only have to remove one side to get that baffle out?
Anybody know what the spec is on the correct rivet?
Thanks

the problem comes when you re-rivet plastic handles they tend to break at the corners. I would either swap for t-nuts and screws or go for the metal handle upgrade.
both handles will have to come off.

Both handles have to come off and they will break. Now you can prove me wrong. Scumback makes the handles with the hole pattern to match the plastic handles then you put in Tee nuts and screws you have stronger tighter fit than original.

Got them both out without breaking! On corner was broken before, but I think I can glue it back. Will go with screws and t-nuts.
Looked pretty close at Scumback's tutorial on a 4x12 recover over on thegearpage.net, and feel ready to take on the re-cover!
Does anyone know where to get a metal caster base?
Thanks

Second that on the Scumback vintage metal handle reproductions. I just replaced the plastic handles on my '79 Marshall 1960B cab with the Scumback handles. The holes line up perfectly.

I held off on purchasing the screw kit. Instead, I went to the Home Depot & got the #10-32 x 1 1/4" Flathead Phillips Machine Screws, the #10-32 Machine Nuts and the washers.
