Ignoring speaker selection, is there enough of a sound difference between these two to justify one over the other significantly?

They really do! Part of the reason I want one really. Shallow I know.
I heard they have more bottom end, but it's never clear if that's because people are comparing different speakers. I think the Orange cabs come standard with V30s or G12H.
No wheels / castors either, which must be a pain.
Still.....it'd be a shame if I was missing out on a better sound by not having one!

Oh man, I have to say, despite being a Marshall man, and loving the look, the Orange 2X12"s absolutely kill any Marshall 2X12" available today by a long, long way.
Soooo much deeper, tighter, more. And that's having had both side by side (1936 vs whatever bigass deep Orange cab it was in the studio) with Vintage 30's (and I HATE these speakers).
Heavier though... but it's a great trade off IMO.

I have to say the 1936 is probably one of the worse 2x12's out there, made from what looks like compressed cardboard? even those cheap harley benton cabs are made from real wood and come with v30's.
Had no experience with orange but even when they first came out in the '70's I disliked the colour and the logo design, sorry. Putting and old marshall on top of an orange cab should be a finable offense
Shameless plug for a '74 2245 cab available
So far this looks like an all Brit post!

Oh....I'm a big fan of a Marshall top and Orange bottom! There's something great about having both of those great british companies represented in your rig
Construction / MDF etc doesn't bother me in the slightest, I've not managed to break a 1936 yet, and nothing has ever dropped off or failed on me. But if, as DemonUFO says, the construction of the Orange cab imparts a significant tonal difference, then I'm interested in the trade up. I must admit, I do love wheeling the Marshall 2x12 around, so much easier than when I was using a 4x12. Having to carry the Orange 212 around would seem like a bit of a step backwards.
Does the Orange 2x12 have roughly the same dimensions? The boot of my car is exactly one Marshall 1936 (with wheels) and a Peavey JSX Head wide!

Aww.. Several generations removed Scot here.. ORANGE IS WAY TOO DEEP. Thumping sub-sonic monster bass.
The 4x12 would make a great microphone for a straight Marshall cab.
