Please, what can you tell me about this cabinet?

Post by Jofipe » Sat Nov 24, 2012 7:02 am

Hey :) Any info of what i'v got here? The speakers are original, and was never removed.. I'd like to know if there is any info about what year it could be, part of any series "being a blonde", the grillcloth etc.

Thank allot in advance!! I can tell you it's the best sounding cab i'v ever owned.. it sounds like butter, and this one will stay right here.

Its hard to determine on the pics.. I should maybe open up to the back again. Im a bit afraid to do that too much. The skrews are still original. I cant find anything unoriginal on the cab to be honest. I guess these speakers are Pre-rola right?

Ok so it's February 1970 (12th).
They should have the 102 003 cone number and are indeed what people call "pre-rola" although I think "Pulsonic" is more accurate as some speakers have a rola label but still the same pulsonic cone. And tone is what matters, right ?

So this is referred to as a Pulsonic cone? I might have to open up the old cab and go through all the numbers on these speakers.
Wouldnt it make perfect sense that these are the speakers that has been sitting in this cab ever since?

Yes, they are probably orginal to the cab, a close look at the solder joints might tell you if they have been replaced.

Thanks :)

Also, the grillcloth was originally black & cream, but it has faded into this? Or was it always just this color?

What would a cab like this be worth do you think?

Whatever someone is prepared to pay for it! Depends where you are in the world, if you ship, how well you pack and whether you have an ebay feedback profile. Demanding cash on collection if you live in darkest Peru is a sure fire way of having no takers
It was originally white (if you cleaned it up - not that I am suggesting you do - it would come up a light cream, almost white).
The type is early 1970 as it stiull has the lower baffle internal triangles to support pop-in revvo type casters.

Original unmolested custom colour Marshalls can be quite sought after but you really need someone who has the correct head to go with it.

Speakers alone would be £200each slight premium for matching quad with intact cones and solder joints.

Cheers!
Yeah, the cab will stay like this, dirty and full of rock soul. I'll glue some of the loose tolex back on to make it less prone to get ripped and to give it a great roadworn finish. I think I'll be looking into getting some original casters.
I might give the wood in the bottom some lemon oil or something just to make it stronger. Any other ideas?
The can looks very good IRL like this, but I guess the about stopping the wear and tear now at its most extreme but still awesome ;) I guess this wont be my go to tour cab.
Used it recording an album last month, and it seriously sounded MUCH better than anything else iv had.

If you want to make it stronger you'll need something more like boiled linseed oil, but I wouldn't recommend it (it will leave a finish, as will anything that will actually do anything for the strength of the wood). Lemon oil is more of a wood cleaner, and will only provide slight nourishment, but it's not really going to make it any stronger. I'd just leave it, and let it breathe as it is.
So I like purple, okay!!!!!!

Great cab! I would skip the lemon oil, no need for it. Just play it! They sound better sitting straight on the floor, no casters, imo. I made birch plywood skids (Orange style) for my cabs to protect the bottoms and make solid contact with the floor (or stage!).

Cool cab finds as of late.

Leave it as it is. Lemon oil is for salads.

how many times and on how many internet forums do you need to see people writing "leave it alone, leave it just as it is", before it sinks into your head? its good advice. use it.
