Using a 47k connected to the 8 ohm tap on my 50w build, is there a cabinet load (4,8 or 16) that sounds better or has any advantage over the other.

The reason I ask is that I am going to buy a couple of Scumbacks for a 2x12, and typically I buy 8 ohm speakers so with a 2x12 I have the option of parallel for 4 ohms or series for 16 ohms. Or would it be better to get 16 ohm speakers in parallel for an 8 ohm load?

Depends on what you really want. I wired 2 16ohms with 2 webber speaker motors like a 4/12, so my 2/12 cab is a 16 ohm load. It really smooths out the sound with the 2 extra loads. with a total 16 ohm load, you can run your head at 8/16 ohms. BTW, I've seen guys just use 2 little 50w Arco resistors and do the same thing for about $15.

My cab is wired so that all speakers are in parallel giving 4 ohms. How does this differ in sound compared to 16 ohms in series-parallel or parallel-series? Is it smoother, less beamy or..?
