Using Marshall 1960 cabinets for bass guitar

Post by Majorlead78 » Mon Mar 03, 2014 11:53 am

A couple weeks ago, I scored an empty '99 Marshall JCM 900 1960B 4x12 cabinet for $185.00 from a seller on Craigslist. But instead of using it for lead guitar, I want to use the cab for bass. I could've bought a Marshal VBC412 for bass, but decided to go with the JCM 900 cab for it's almost the same dimensions except the VBC412 has a little bit more depth.

If anyone wants to know, here are the dimensions of both cabs:

JCM 900: 770mm x 755mm x 365mm (30 5/16" x 29 23/32" x 14 3/8")

VBC412: 765mm x 760mm x 383mm (30 1/8" x 29 59/64" x 15 5/64")

Got a few questions. Will it be okay to use the JCM 900 cab for bass guitar? Should I do any modifications? I thought about making a birch plywood resonant board with ports. I'm thinking about using the Weber Ceramic Bass 12" speakers.

The amp I'll be using is a Marshall Super Lead 100 watt clone.

Opinions welcome.
