ImageHello,I posted over in the beginner sect.,I thaught I'd try my luck here.I built my bass cab's and I got this black & white theme going on.I've been trying for some time to find Marshall s&p grill cloth that is black & white.I got some from Mojotone but it was vintage tan color, which is cool but I really dig the black & white stuff.I've had pro cab builders tell me I wont find the black & white stuff but I see it on their cab's,so somebody makes it!Can anybody help me out here?http://forum.metroamp.com/posting.php?mode=post&f=14#

Just look for the screws selling at £5000 each and you will find him

http://www.ebay.com/sch/abbeystudios3/m.html

There is also a grey black weave knocking about used by hiwatt, but I havent seen anyone selling it yet. Its out there because Ive got a sample of it here from the importer. They also do an all black basketweave, orange use it on their "jim root" line.

The black/white stuff is all NOS, so you have to look hard for it. They made a batch in the 80's or 90's for hiwatt but it is no longer available from the usual retailers. I had a roll of it but sold the last to Davy at abbeystudios.

I got it from Angela,it is the grey and black that you spoke of,but it's damn close & it looks awesome! But since then I found actual black and white at Tube Town, they are in Germany.Thier prices sound fair but I don't know what the shipping is gonna cost.I have 2 more 15" speakers that need cabinets but they are gonna be brown and wheat, much more redilly available colors. Thanks again for all your help,my friend!

I also found a site called KLDguitars or something like that, they are in China but you have to buy large quantatys . I'm guessing that is where cab builders are getting theirs from;I'm not sure but I'm dying to know! I'd never thought something as trivial as grill cloth would be such a well guarded secret!

its not really a secret. they just stopped making it several years ago so you have to turn over a few stones to find it nowadays to find whatever bits of it are left.

the factory that makes it in china will sell you the standard colours in small numbers (cane and cream/black etc), but if you want something custom made they will want a massive order of thousands of metres. its a dead end unless you own a large business and play with those kinds of figures.

i fished around a couple of years ago looking for some in blue, white and black, and brown two tone for various cab restores. got nowhere in the end.

the place that used to make it in the 60's is only a few miles from where i live. they are still in business but just import it all from china thesedays instead of making their own.

I see! Do you have any insight to that Tube Town. They carry all three colors of s&p the tan,the grey and white. They say all three are the same texture, like the grey that I got.The original looked to be sort of what they called paper or cloth,I guess that's why it faded to the wheat color the original Marshall's are. This new stuff is sort of plastic,a little hard to work with but very durable! I love it!I purchased a pair of 4"wide pliars to stretch it tight with-which was my wifes job while stapled it

same colours Ive got samples of here. they also do it in black.

the grey/black is made for hiwatt I think.

it is made from rolled paper yarns. all from the same factory in china I think. although Ive read someone say that mojotone have their own version - whether that really is the case I dont know. they would have to be ordering it in those thousands of metres the chinese factory asks for.
