Hi!

I've been searching and with no result. I have a mint early 80s 1936 JCM800 2x12 cab and the grillcloth has some dirty spots on it. I'm wondering what is the best way to clean it? I have no clue how to make it look nice again without destroying it. There seem to be no threads whatsover on how to clean those cloths.

Thanks!

I have an old 1936 that I fixed up a while back. Open it up and remove the speakers just to be safe. Carefully remove the Marshall logo. A metal potato skewer works great for carefully tapping the logo pins out from the back side. Tap each pin a little at a time. If you punch one pin all the way out you might break an old, brittle logo.
Clean the grill cloth with some water and just a few drops of dish soap using a brush. Hit it again with clean water. Let it completely dry. Mix up a bottle of black Rit clothes dye in a small (margarine) tub of water. You can find Rit dyes at any grocery store with the other laundry products. Just brush it on with a paint brush and let it dry. It made my old black grill cloth look brand new and lasted a long time until I replaced it with Salt & Pepper cloth.
And vacuum first so water doesn't turn dirt to mud.
