Filter Cap Forming

Post by mutts » Mon Jan 07, 2013 12:18 pm

I've been noodling around the forum and found a thread regarding forming filter capacitors and it seems like an important thing to do. I've been playing the amp for a couple of hours - is it too late to form the capacitors as outlined in Larry's procedure. If this step was so important why is there no mention of it in the build instructions??

I think you'll be fine, new filter caps will hold up without forming. It might be good to do so but you already hit the standby switch. ;) I wouldn't be worried, many folks don't form their NEW caps.

What do you think Julkke, would I still be able to realize any tone benefits by forming these caps now versus not doing it at all?

No, once you have charged the capacitors by turning the amp on, forming caps will not benefit you.
