ITS FINISHED!
Well sort of, I am still waiting on 3 .1 sozo's but I can wack them in in 2 seconds.
I wired up the pots first, I decided not to include the 500pf on the high treble channel. The last build I did felt just a tad too bright. Its easy enough to put one in later anyway.

Then I wired up the power to 240v for "safety" specifications. I hope I did this correctly.

And.. the final product!!

Its going to be a very long wait for those sozos and speakers!!

Today I added the swap resistors. I figured since I would be using valveart KT66's it was pretty much a must do thing.
Still waiting patiently for my speakers and caps. The speakers are on their way and I am hoping I will get them next week sometime. The caps I am not sure of but hopefully soon also.

Well the caps have been installed so its done!
I just checked online tracking and it says the speakers have cleared customs so next week I should get my speakers, hopefully earlier rather than later.

I picked up a cheap jack from dick smiths which is the equiv of your radioshack in the US. I was wondering if it will do the job fine for the speaker hookup?

I have some two stranded power cable here that is said to be good for speaker hookup, I might take some pictures of that later aswell to see if its suitable. I have never hooked up speakers so its all a bit new to me.
Also on the subject of speakers. Should I solder the wire directly to the speaker terminals or should I use those terminal connectors that crimp onto the wire?
Cheers.

Looks good marT!
That 1/4" plug is fine for the speaker cable. There are sturdier plugs like Switchcraft but that's no big deal, especially in a combo where you won't be unplugging it all the time.
As for the speaker terminals, I prefer to solder them but either way will work.
I look forward to hearing it!

haha my girlfriends dad is an electrician and I am living with them at the moment, he has lots and lots of spools of various wire. I can't find the exact size of the wire written anywhere but I would say the strands are larger than the 18 guage wire in the kit.toner wrote:Did you break into your local Smith's warehouse for those spools? Be honest now!![]()
18 gauge or larger is fine. I can't tell what you have there from the pictures. 16 or 14 gauge is theoretically better but in a low-power guitar amp it's not a big deal.

I followed Larry's advice on forming filter caps but without a lot of prior experience it's hard for me to tell if it makes a big difference. ?marT wrote:So is forming really not necessary with these new caps?
I have to wait around for my speakers so letting it form for a day is no problem at all.
What exactly do I have to do with the JTm45 build to do this? I thought it was taking off the red wire on the filter cap and putting a resistor inbetween?
You may want to start breaking in your sozo's though if you're bored:

wow I didn't know you could pre break in the sozo's. unfortunately without speakers or dummy load I can't really do it.
toner, can you explain to me what you did with the JTM45 to form them. I have read all the threads on it but I still can't figure out exactly what to do to the JTM45. Do I need a dummy load for cap forming too?

Actually, you can. Just remove the power tubes. You don't need speakers or any load (see George's comments in the thread I posted).marT wrote:wow I didn't know you could pre break in the sozo's. unfortunately without speakers or dummy load I can't really do it.
Sorry, I haven't built a 45 yet. I did this on a 100w.marT wrote:toner, can you explain to me what you did with the JTM45 to form them. I have read all the threads on it but I still can't figure out exactly what to do to the JTM45. Do I need a dummy load for cap forming too?
All I can do is refer you to Larry's instructions:

You may want to PM Larry if you're not sure about something specific to a 45.
