Hey Everyone,
JTM Kit with SoZo and Mullard upgrades
I am really excited about finishing my 1st electrical build ever. And now I have a Beautiful sounding amp as a result. But it was a rough and humbling experience assembling the amp.
During the assembly and wiring of the amp I ran into a couple of questions that the guy's at Metro awnsered for me. I decied to install a ICE powercord instead of hardwiring it to the amp.
The fun started when I started the testing procedure. During testing my voltage I was get some really high and some really low readings, basically they were all over the place. I retraced all my footsteps and realized that I had my 330uf polarity backwards as well as I forgot the 820 resistor. I fixed the problem and
went back to checking the voltage readings and it was not any better.
So a little frustrated I starting checking everything starting with step 1 and tracing my steps and could not see anything. If it wasn't for the photo of an assembled PT board then I probally would never have seen this. But looking at the 470 resistor that I installed did not look right. So I went to the forum to see if I could find anything and sure enough I found that a lot of newbies like me make the mistake of installing a 470K where a 470 should be. I fixed this and everything else from there was gravy. All reading were correct and I completed the amp.
It was one 0'clock in the morning and I did plug her in with my tele to see what it sounded like and with ther rest of the household asleep I could barely turn it up, so this morning I pluged in for 15 minutes before going to work. Man I sounded good. No hissing or popping in fact it less noice than my mesa boogie. I can't wait to get home tonight and fire her up.
Thank you Metro Amp and everyone on the forum without out you I would have never got her done.
I took pics of the whole process but need to figure out how to post then on this forum. Any help there would be appreciated.
Thanks
Tommy
