A 10V zener seems to be a bit too low, 20V zener sounds to me more correct.

Sorry, no!

I've done some experiments w/ diodes in the amp layouts in the past. Diodes from the signal path to ground, and also diodes in the cathode circuit of the tubes. But it came up, that I hate diodes in the signal path. That's simply 'not my way'!

What I write now about the use of diodes in the signal path is theory and logic, not experience.

That depends on the voltage 'above' 10V, the diode has to kill.

Again easy to determine with Ohm's law!

P / U = I; I * U = P

Have you already read some books about basic electronics?

Look for 1n747a

Anything from 8v to 20v. The lower the volts the more saturation.

1meg pot.....but you can use different values down to 100k
