How to adjust a Script Phase 90 out of the mud sweep?

Post by harddriver » Thu Dec 13, 2007 2:39 pm

I know we've talked about how ED's phaser never really dropped into the lower frequencies of it's sweep making it kind of a treble phase boost effect.

I have an original script phase 90 has a trimpot inside it.

Which direction counterclockwise or clockwise adjustment would adjust it to where it would not sweep into the mud?

How much does those little trimpots rotate I don't want to break it?

i would mark the stock setting before you play with it so you can go back to it if you need to..

i actually took my new reissue phase 90 and did the r28 mod and i also pulled 2 other componentes out. Has anybody else done this?? Seems to get rid of the boost(mid)?? and make it somewhat like a older script?"?

I've done this also: clipped R28 & C11 & C12. Nice sound, but not good enough for me. I liked the EVH in script mode better and now building an Script Phase 90 (with original board & components)

Both my script phase 45 and 90 trem pots were soldered into position (annoying). I've sense un-soldered them and adjusted the pots accordingly, however I was surprised that the sweet spot was in the space of a fraction of an inch. Turning the pot to the left or right of that spot for the most part did nothing. Is this normal?

Sorry for the confusion, I just bought a Phase 90 script board at my local pawn shop, cost me 5 dollars. Now a friend of mine built me a MXR 'copy' box and soldered the jacks, power etc. It's just a Script Phase 90 in a self made box with new jacks....Best phaser sound I've heard so far.

I've had stock block logo's / modded block logo's / EVH and 1 Script logo but messed with...this one is by far the best...beautiful lush, warm etc.

As several have pointed out, be sure you mark the original position down to a gnats ass!!!!!!! Any type of adjustment should be veeeerrrry subtle. I fiddled with one a few years ago and never got it back in the original position (which was actually the optimal position). The pot acts more as a balance of the phase sweep. If you have it set too far left/right of that optimal position, then you'll have a unbalanced lop-sided phase sweep. All the way left/right and you have no phase.

I've done the r28 and removed c11 not c12 on a re-issue block logo

and just like Rueben mentioned, it's better ..but not the same as the older script Phase 90's.

I'm happy with mine this way but, a/b'd against a VH clip...it's still different sounding than VH.

better sweep than the EVH striped phase pedal for sure...more musical

I know we talked about this months ago but, has anyone noticed the
Dunlop custom shops NEW 2nd. re-issue of the 70's script phase 90???

The inside looks pretty close to an Original script...of course..that never means a whole lot until you test one out or buy one

2nd. re-issue? you mean the SCRIPT PHASE 90 CSP-101SL (WITH additional LED) ???? That pedal supposes to use the exact same circuit as the EVH Phase in script mode....

This 2nd. one is called the 1974 re-issue script Phase 90 , so it is another NEW MXR Phase 90 model and it is 119.00 versus 159.99

here is a link- http://www.musictoyz.com/guitar/pedals/mxr.php

maybe this is Dunlop's way of covering up the huge mistake they made on the CSP-101SL ala EVH Phase in a different box :( .

I'm very curious about this new one

mmm....strange indeed....

I thought they said the CSP-101SL supposed to have THE classic script sound? Jeez, how many Phasers do they have?

*Block
*EVH
*CSP-101
*2nd re-issue

Wonder if they get it right this time...anyone gonna check it out?

Now that I have a original script I don't need to try it...well maybe buy the housing ;)
