I agree but it wont hurt us to bring our amps and jam there. That is the kind of place it is and their customer service is top notch. They have sold 3 already and have one left. It is a piece of crap but the vibe and feel it has is something I have never felt in my hands before. I think thru my Dave Freidman PPIMV Marshall it will roar and for me it will put to rest all of the scpecualtion on this pickup. I actually am glad I played it for as long as I did so know I know things I thought I knew and know what it felt like to play EVH's axe, even if it is not his real one.

Also if you want to measure just the guitar... put you meter on ohms, touch 1 lead of your meter to the tip inside the jack and the black tip to say the jack nut or the inside of the jack side wall! That way you get just the guitar with no cord!

There is really no way of telling what paf was in the original frankie(1978).We know from what ed supposinally said that it was from a 1961 gibson es335 guitar, that was 30 years ago,and we all know ed is a BSer when to comes to his equipment, that pickup could have been changed a million times, the true fact would be to have that pickup in 1978 and to have it tested back then, the pickup in the evh replica could be what ever they decided to put in that guitar, who really knows.Do we believe that when ed gave his original frankie to fender to copy that the pickup that was in the guitar was from 1978,the original,i dont think so.........

O.K., I did just find out that what Marco stated is true. The model 78 pickup in the Fender EVH replica is NOT the same as a basic model 78. Ed actually took his New EVH amp to the Seymour Duncan shop and had them tweak a 78 for 2 days!! The pickup is currently Not available to the public. I would like to know the readings on the one in the guitar! I have 5 regular 78's and they are ALL 9.1k.

Nice how the filterings put up that great voice... It's like a ultimate curv of the tone... not to muddy, no lacking of the grind and chewyness, no lack of highs... sounds great
I couldn't agree more.
Thanks for giving us a pickup caparison to hear as well as the new amp build. Mr. Wagner would be impressed.
Both of you get such great tones.
The variables seem to be how both of you tweak in what you have to work with.
Even as far as the cord.
Up until just 3 years ago I never would of thought that would make a difference but I can see how some like one clip over the other.
Earlier this year I swapped out (going back-and-forth) several cables with the exact same settings and it made my tone either thicker or thinner.
I can clearly see just by having a different cord in the JB clip the chewyness would go away and now a whole new ball game.
Another route, I would like to entertain the thought of Series/Parallel on the JB as well. (I have done this with my Shredder with excellent results.)
Soundin' killer Mark !
Great stuff !

Re: new amp build - EVH
I used to be Brad737 on the board, but I can’t reset my password, so I created a new profile. This is my amp, which also happened to be the first amp Mark built for a customer. I still have it, and after 12 years, it’s still my #1 amp. Mark was quite a guy...great player, great amp builder, and a great guy to chat with. I swear he was as excited as I was when he saw how pleased I was with my amp. He was a wonderful guy taken from us too soon.
