stan, these are georges transformers. my 79 2203 has the original trannys. it sound great.

It sounds too thin to me, well not thin but it lacks that certain fluid cream, I think I'm missing the big balls power section sound. Could you post a clip with the amp cranked?

u are correct! the PPIMV takes away from that. ill post a clip of it using some power.

so what specs do i need to change from a stock 2203 to get the same circuit your using here?im going to convert my best friends amp for him..

thankyou mark..i have to un-mod the amp.it had an extra tube gainstage put in back in the 80s.how are the stock 2203 caps?maybe i will pull the board and put a point to point in and get better caps if need be..

i pulled mine and put a PTP in in it. don't know much about the green caps it had on the PCB mainly so i could tweak.

well then i will prob go with a point to point and just put the original board on the side.i dont want to hack up the original board so it can be put back to stock if he wants..

i put the darkburst back in. still is a couple things i want to do to the spec but for now thought u may want to hear the db and jb difference... now excuse me while i hack..

Your amp sounds great. I like the Darburst better over the JB. The Darkburst sound like it has less gain with better definition . The JB sound like it has more gain and sounds kind of muddy.

I have a G&L Legacy with a JB in the bridge in a HSS configuration. I think the JB in my guitar sounds kind of muddy. Thinking about changeing it for something else that is why I asked you about your reasons and opinions on changeing your pickups. Building a 50watt Plexi and looking for advice on what to change the JB out for.
