Was it the lead solo you found to be wrong? The rest of the song is pretty basic. Ed use's a weird bar thing with his index finder, almost like muted sweep picking. Some tabs show the correct notes but in the wrong postions. Sounds easy but I've heard very few do it like the album.

Here is a Tab from Ultimate guitar Tabs. I changed a few things. Anyway the solo starts with your index on the A 12th fret but slides to the D string 14 fret with the same finger. Use this postion also on the 10th fret A string as well. This sets up your fingering to play the weird sweeping thing that follows. Leave you index at these postions, laying across the 14 fret and then the 10th, muting the strings a little. And practice like Ed's coming to your house tommorow to jam with this. Drink this slow. It only sounds correct if you hit all the notes perfectly and with the correct timing. Hope this helps a little.

Yes, If you watch any of the stuff on YouTube, sometimes Ed would slide up from the 7th and 5th frets and other times he would start at the 14 and 12. Basically, get the timing correct, knowing where the notes are is one thing, making them sound correct together is another.

I was talking about the basic melody, not the solo...I've never heard anyone play it correctly. I do agree that timing and subtleties play a huge role in getting it to sound right but when I really listen to it, it sounds like hes using a different chord after the double mutted strike. Most of the tab shows it being 777 but i just don't think it is. I've tried going back down to 555 and doing a quick hammer pull on 657 and then sliding up but thats not right either. It's really messing with my head. As well, he has so much more low end right out of the gate than any 555 could render. It sounds much closer to me when i start with 355.

SOMEBODY GET ME A DOCTOR!!!!! I just spent the last 45 min on youtube watching and listening to at least 30 random people BUTCHER RWTD. Big mistake..not to take anything away from anyone that posted a video or tried, i applaude everyones effort no matter the outcome.

Anyway, I did search this forum and didnt find much for RWTD but it was late last night i should try again.

Actually, the only part that I'm strugglin with is second bar.

--------------------
---7-H-8---10----9-
---7-H------9----9-
---7-H-9---11----9-
--------------------
--------------------

I hope this makes sense but here is how i hear everyone else play the first three bars in your tab from above:

da da chic-a da-na da da

when eddie sounds like this to me:

da da chic-a da danala da da

Here are three examples out of the countless clips that don't sound right to me at all:

On a side note, you gotta check this out...its precious:

Thanks for chatting with me about this too, I really appreciate that...i can be overbearing when it comes to stuff like this.

Oh, i dont know...you really think? I've even heard some takes of eddie live where he sounds like himself as well as everyone else at different points in the same song and I just figured he was being lazy.

Just a tip for those that don't know. As you are listening and If it dosent sound right its not right! I have learned some tough songs by ear and it sounded good but just not right. But...then when you do get something right you can really tell!! It just fits and "feels" right! Also this wasnt directed at anyone. Just a comment I thought I'd share. For that H.O part I do it on the d string frets 2/4. I have seen it in tab don on 2 strings also up around 7/9

The part I think your talking about has an down and up pick rake across the strings. Most people also dont hold the notes long enough so they ring out a bit.
