EVH sound out of 50W marshall

Post by adamsapple » Wed Jan 25, 2006 4:15 pm

Is it possible to get EVH sound out of a 50watt vs. 100watt Marshall. I'm building a plexi clone out of a 65 Bassman shell which is 50watts. The reason I ask is at the Mojave site their new Scorpion amp is 50 watts and they said they had to design a special oversized 50watt OT to get the EVH sound because you cant get that tone out of a regular 50watt setup. Has anyone experienced this also?

Hey Andy, your '75 50W is a brutal amp? (compared all your amps)

Yesterday i play a JCM 800 100W (in studio) volume 8-9 gain 8 (without Pbrake) Today i set up my 1987 (with Pbrake)
- sound guy ask me why i plug in crappy Pbrake.
Me: OK listen (i hit a A chord) (vol on 7)
Sound guy:  turn down this stuff is f#&in loud

Then i set -6dB (similar loudness like a JCM800 100W) :? :?:

It's the most "heavy metal" amp I own. Seriously, that's all it's good for is anything from VH to hair metal depending on exactly how I set the controls. Its lower plate voltages just make it burn and scream, it's just liquid fire -- throw any note at it in any room, and I swear it will feed it right back at you..........effortless legato runs on this amp.......

So yeah, it's a pretty intense amp. A little removed from the sound I'm typically looking for anymore, I want more "sing" than "scream" usually......

Interesting! Thanks!

My 50w is f#&in loud and clear (can't wait when i put '76 784-139)
example: amp vol 7: guitar vol 10 Angus Young gain
........................................vol 7 Malcom gain
........................................vol 5 nearly full clean
........................................vol 3-4 ultra clean
of course my pick up is low output (SD alnico pro II 7.6k-7.85k)
