1979 Marshall 2203 Mod5

Post by echoplexi1974 » Sat Mar 19, 2016 12:33 pm

Hi guys,

Finally uploaded a clip of a 1979 2203 Marshall that I added the Mod5 to. I got this amp pretty cheaply through a music store in St. Louis. The amp was completely untouched with the original transformers and components. But it was in really rough shape cosmetically. Looked like it was stored in a very damp basement for many years. I cleaned it up the best I could with water and mild soap. I believe Mark really liked these late seventies Marshalls.

Let me know what you guys think. I tweaked the amp the best I could to get close to his sound. Lbrown3743's posted pictures certainly helped too! His pictures certainly answered a lot of questions for me. I think half the battle with the Mod5 circuit is how to properly record it. Hopefully I did it justice. Mark was a master guitarist as well as a excellent recording engineer.

I have just added you to my personal metroamp hall of fame tones. Only a small hand full of others have been lucky enough to be inducted to this prestigious list.

Man, that amp sounds just like an authentic Rockstah Mod5, Great job !

Your playing was already good the first time I heard ya, but you keep getting better with each new clip. Your recording gear/technique is also spot on for the job

I agree with Andy, that sounds just like one of Mark's mods...down to the reverb bath...

Can you post a dry clip?

So, when you say "you got it pretty cheap" how cheap? If you don't mind telling...

Here is a dry clip: https://soundcloud.com/echoplexi1974/mod5-dry-track

I got the amp for around a $1K which I considered a deal since it had all the original parts minus the rear cover and control knobs. Cosmetically challenged but I really don't care about that.
