Was doing some research on the differences between a light dimmer and a variac. A variac actually lowers voltage while leaving the sine wave clean and unchanged. A dimmer switch actually clips the sine wave reducing output voltage. It is this clipping of the sine wave that has me SO VERY INTRIGUED. Maybe that translates to that insane harmonic shimmer? One way to find out I suppose.
And while we're at it, perhaps to try this on the between head and cab trick too.
