Pro Tools 002r mic line input Q

This may sound like astupid question but I can't find an answer in the lame PT user manual....

On my 002r inputs 1-4 will take a line/instrument level signal and be audible. 5-8 will not be audible even with a direct box. Am I correct in assuming that 1-4 have built in mic pre's and 5-8 do not? Allowing me to use an outboard mic pre like a UA, Neve, Avalon, etc? Mark?

Fro what I read just now cheif 1-4 Mic line inputs
5-8 Just line inputs set at +4 dbu
1-4 are audiable and Adjustable +18 to +65 and DI 0 to + 50dbu

so 1 thru 4 for guitars and Bass or Mics
5-8 Keyboads or and synth with its own Volume control and pre

Does that Make any sense there Chief..

Thanks, Jerry. Keys didn't work on 5-8. It also might be my I/O sugnal routing in PT itself.

don't ya HATE that kind of crap, cubase has made me absolutely nuts on more than a few occasions with stuff like this. then i'd be searching through the telephone book size manual to not find any mention of something that should be on page 1...
