Jer, how do you like the KRKs? What are you powering them with?

I like them alot.. I seem to mix well on them.. . Ive sent out tunes
and went and listened to my mixes on other monitors and the mix is the same...
I use a 1971 Harmon/Kardon amp with dual output trannys

I just seem to like passive monitors for some reason.. I am looking into getting a pair of Ns 10's or old EV's for a second reference

Interesting you say that. I've my old Carvin FET900 (450w per channel) and an old pair of Alesis Monitor Ones in fantastic shape that I've been thinking about selling off to put towards pair of self-powered monitors...like a pair of used Mackie HR824s. Seems like everyone and his brother makes nearfields now so I'm pretty out of the loop. KRKs just came onto the scene when I was leaving it behind but I've heard good things and the price range is good. I've been musing about getting my home writing/recording rig set up again when I move to a new apt and was looking at a couple of desk/rack set ups ala:

Originally I was looking at the larger one just so I have a place to put DIY rack projects but who knows how long it's going to take for me to get to that point. Right now, the smaller one makes more sense....shelf for a pair of monitors, space for a new midi controller, and a rack to hold my old virus b synth. I want to get a regular desk from IKEA to "L" off it so I have a place to work on the electronic projects and have my computer set up. That's one plus of the producer desk is it's big enough for all that but because I do web development work, I need a comfortable place to work and I hate the studio setups where they have the computer keyboard on a pullout tray and the monitor up on the 2nd shelf, where you have to crain your neck...I need to be 6" from the radiation so I can make out the details when I'm "graphicking"...heheheh!

That's for sure. I saw the bigger one at GC the other day and thought it was pretty damn spiffy. Has a pull-out tray between the desk and shelf...perfect for my j-station. That being said, it may be a little large for the typical NYC apartment. On another note, if you're a DIY kinda guy (and I know you are since you built the studio) you may dig this site/forum if you haven't seen it:

Plans for building studio furniture. Cool if you have a router and some space for wood working (a bit of know-how)...hell, just the angled floor racks would be a killer addition.
