Handheld recorders

Does anyone have some experience with the 'mid class' handy recorders like:

- Sony PCM-D50
- Tascam DR-100
- Marantz PMD 661
- or something comparable

and can recommend one out of these?

I've tried recording a nearly dimed 100W head with a Zoom H2 and I'm totally disappointed!
This small toy obviously can't take the loudness coming from big amps!

TIA!

Larry

I'm using an Edirol R09 for recording band practices and gigs. So far, I didn't have any problem with it taking high SPL (e.g. loud band and using a dimed, un-attenuated 50w Marshall). The sound is pretty decent too.

I didn't try the other recorders mentioned in your previous post so I don't know how the Edirol compare with them.
