anybody ever record with a laptop? i've been looking at one of the m-audio usb interfaces. my old delta 44 has been pretty good to me. they update their drivers pretty nicely.

i have known people that do - just like with a desktop if u have atleast 512mb of ram - 1gig is better of ram- a 7200 rpm or better hd - dedicated recording drive is better - you should be okay with minimal tracks/effects - geting ito a firewire interface all the better with better laptop specs i mentioned.

I have done pretty succesfully... here's a song recorded on my laptop using a Motu 828 and an external HD on the same firewire bus. Source is the Mix out of a Yamaha 24 input console. I had planned on multi-tracking the session but my ignorance of things digital got in the way. I had a 48k vs 44.1k switch in the wrong place we found out after the fact.. oh well.

The only problem with using a PC laptop is they aren't as DAW friendly as desktop machines are. The exception would be the ones built from scratch to be used as a DAW. My laptop is a Toshiba M35X, 1.6ghz, P4. I upgraded the ram to 1g, but the internal drive is only 4200 rpm, which makes it useless to record audio with. I use Cakewalk Sonar Home Studio for my recording app.

Just picked up the M-Audio Firewire 410. Berry Berry Nice at a nice price!
Has some of the best preamps in the bizzness ! ! !

M-audio seems to be a pretty good company. They update their drivers well. Really decent stuff for the money.

+1 for M-Audio. My desktop sound card is an AP2496 and I really like how it sounds.
